On Sunday, June 8, 2014, Little Oromia (aka Minnesota) will hold a community fundraising event at Augsburg College.
“Oromo Students from several universities in Oromia conducted peaceful protests against the so-called Master Plan. The Ethiopian security forces responded with bullets to unarmed protesters. Several students were killed, and thousands more arrested, and are being imprisoned to this day. University students and concerned Oromo citizens protested so history won’t repeat itself. Finfinnee (Addis Ababa) was conquered through invasion in 19th century. Ever since the invasion, the ruling party literally eradicated farmers from the surrounding towns and disrupted the cultural livelihood of the native Oromos. Now with the new plan, they intend to do the same. This plan is to expand the capital city to the surrounding Oromia regional state. The students exercised their constitutional right; yet they were violently silenced, tortured, and imprisoned. The little we can do as a community here in the free world is support the victims of this atrocious act by the Ethiopian security forces. So please help us help them!”
